email from Darlene Hixson (singer/songwriter) Hey Ric,
I took some time to sample your Ball of Flames
CD and wow.... it was as if I'd gone to the chocolate factory and I began to
dream a sceme on how'd I get my hands on a whole box rather than these taste
test teasers. So, I'm clapping for you and looking forward to hearing more
next month at the lighthouse. By the way, you can autograph me a copy -
don't want you running out before then! Take care, Darlene
October/2004 Review for "Ric Lafontaine" by: Ontario songwriter Melanie Hebert The song writing and music of Ric Lafontaine has inspired me nearly my whole life. His lyrics are insightful, vivid and honest. Whether it be about relationships, people or places, he captures the moments so clearly that he takes you to places you swear you've been if only in your most beautiful dreams. His many songs about the forces of nature and the strength of a man are always balanced with vulnerability and tenderness never being afraid to acknowledge his fears or weaknesses. The love songs he writes leave every woman wishing they could be the muse that inspires his great passion for life and love. Never are his songs dreary no matter how heart breaking the lyrics ric always leaves an element of hope. Ric Lafontaine has a magic about him that captivates all of us and leaves everyone feeling like they have known him forever, he sings the songs in our hearts and fuels our imaginations with his fire. I am grateful for my friend and teacher and aspire to become the great writer that he is. Melanie Hebert You can't help but
fall right into these songs The Wind Gone Mad is a masterpiece! "The phenomenalness of Ric Lafontaine's richly remarkable lyrics and extraordinary melodic and intelligent musicianship converge perfectly to create amazingly beautiful songs delivered by a voice that pulls on the heart strings of your soul. The Wind Gone Mad is one CD you will always want to have in your CD player." Birgit Purple Dog Music I have seen Ric perform a number of times. His music has a unique westcoast flavour. Gary Fjellgaard, songwriter and Juno award winner Reminiscent to times of Cat Stevens but with the flavor of a seasoned fisherman of the west coast! Ric has a way of reflecting the free and independent spirit of the west coast, that indomitable drive that made Canada what it is today! Ken Brault, songwriter forAlicken hue "Lafontaine's music seems to come from hope in human nature, and aspires to perpetuate what is good in people." Vicky Goodeve of The Ladysmith-Chemainus Chronicle "Terrific, beautiful, very gifted, very imainative...amazing as you have no formal training. You are capable of winning a Juno Award" Jacquie Droz, music instructor While the Island market is presently limited, he feels that will change. "Vancouver Island has an absolute wealth of talented people" Lafontaine said, excitement in his voice. "Vancouver Island is, I believe, about to bloom. And I would like to be a part of that." Interview by Vicky Goodeve of The Ladysmith-Chemainus Chronicle, Aug 27,1991 "Ric Lafontaine's songs are filled with imagery. I love it." Lynne Petersen, songwriter
